As of October 2015, we have a new Health Centre located in the back of the Shuswap Band Office offering confidential services from three different office spaces to the Shuswap Band Members!
Our Health Programs provide the following services on an ongoing basis:
Nursing Assessment, Care Management, Nursing Care
Home Support Services
Fully functional Primary Care Clinic
Annual Seabird Diabetes team onsite
Flu clinics annually, tetanus shots
Facilitation for Substance use Treatment
Child’s Health – dental health outreach twice yearly
Gym drop in Passes to Valley Fitness and YPC, Fit Bits
HIV and STI confidential testing and counseling on site monthly
Confidential pregnancy testing
Pool recreation passes
Mobile mammography on site
Winter snowshoe leading (various sizes)
Saboxone/Methadone clinic access/initiation
Referral services to other health professionals
Naloxone Training and kits (provincially recognized) to prevent drug overdose
Health food boxes every 3 weeks
Facilitation for medical benefits under NIBH
Confidential Treatment Room
Doctor – Dr. Mannheimer – Every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month starting at 12:00.
Naturopath – Once monthly by Dr. Baker provided in his clinic
Aboriginal Dietician – Monthly Visits – Dietary education, diabetic care, chronic disease management, etc.
Kinesiologist – Monthly Visits – Education/individual appointments around: movement, safety, diet, chronic disease management, etc.
Massage Therapy – Every Wednesday – A professional blend of techniques, including the stimulation of trigger points, which clears your mind and body.
Certified Foot Care – Every 5 weeks – Foot and toenail care – Learn how to keep your feet healthy, etc.
Dietician – Once monthly
Diabetes Education – Once monthly
Counseling Services – Onsite and with FNHA certified counselor offsite
Pre/Post Natal Care – For mothers and infants
Access to 10 co fee payments for Chiropractor and Physiotherapy
Elder freezer meals (last Wednesday of every month)
Healthy Food Box Program – The Shuswap Band’s Healthy Food Box Program provides healthy fruits and vegetables to community members every two weeks. The cost is $5 per box (maximum 1 per household).
Take-Home Naloxone Program – The Shuswap Band is the only Take-Home Naloxone Centre in the Columbia Valley registered with the British Columbia Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC)! This program is an overdose prevention program for anybody using opioid medications. If anyone is interested in learning about this program, please call Shauna or Morgan at the Health Centre.
