A Word from our Chief

Welcome to our Community. I am honoured to be Chief of the peoples that are the Kenpesq’t, the Shuswap Indian Band. We are of the Secwepemc Nation and our traditional territory is located on what is now known as the Upper Columbia Valley. We are the Tsqwatstens-kucw ne Casliken; the People Between Two Mountain Ranges.

It is my hope that our children, the future generations of Shuswap people, will continue the traditions and language of our ancestors.

It is my hope that future generations are free and independent in all senses of the word; that they are free to choose their futures and able to follow the path they select.

It is my hope that my peoples and my Nation are economically independent and self-sustainable.

This is my hope, this is my dream - and as Chief – it is my mission to make this a reality.

I am proud of all we have accomplished and am confident that we will continue to make sound economic, environmental and forward-thinking choices based on our cultural and social values.
